What is this? The Color Fun Run is one of Aikahi Elementary School PTA’s biggest fundraisers. With the elimination of our Fall Fundraiser and the fundraising component of the Turkey Trot this year, this event has a fundraising goal of $20,000!
The Color Fun Run is not a race, but a fun event the whole student body, teachers, and families can enjoy on April 14, 2018 While students can register for FREE. Parents/Family/Teachers can also join in on the fun for a $15 registration fee.
The participants will make their way around the field adjacent to the Aikahi Elementary campus while getting “colored” at different stations on the course. Completion certificates will be awarded at the end. Students are asked to find sponsors willing to donate money on their behalf.
Does my student have to register on-line to participate at the event on Saturday, April 14, 2018?Yes! While each student does have an individual fundraising website, ALL participants: students, teachers, parents, family members MUST register on-line in order to participate on Saturday, April 14, 2018.
The deadline to register is 5pm on Wednesday, April 4, 2018. We must have all participants sign a liability waiver. We also need to know how many people will be participating to ensure we have enough colored powder for everyone!
How does my student ask for donations? This website gives you a super quick way to reach out to family & friends here in Hawaii, as well as on the Mainland. Simply email a link to your student’s page to family and friends! You can post it to your Facebook and Twitter accounts with a quick click. It’s so easy and simple. No more having to go door-to-door!
Ugh. Another fundraiser? The PTA made the decision this year to limit the amount of PTA fundraisers. We decided to forego the traditional Fall Fundraiser and the fundraising component of the Turkey Trot. This was in hopes of greater participation in the school’s larger fundraisers, such as We Love Aikahi, Arts for Aikahi, and the Color Fun Run.
How long is the course and what is the “color”?The course is approximately 4 laps around the field next to Aikahi Elementary. At different stations throughout the course, participants will be gently sprayed with a different color of dry, non-toxic powder. We suggest participants wear swim goggles or sunglasses for eye protection (although every attempt will be made to keep the color below the head!)
The colors are made up of corn starch and are approved for use in foods, cosmetics and/or drugs. We don’t recommend you eat it-they say it tastes like colored dirt, yuck!
How does the clean-up work? The easiest way to get the color off is while it’s still dry (shake, wiggle, jump up and down, vacuum, etc). After that, soap and water, with a little rinse and repeat action will do the trick. We do encourage participants to wear sunglasses (you will look way more cool). This will greatly reduce the chances of getting colors in the eyes. However, don’t fear if the color does get in your eyes, the color is non-toxic. A simple rinse with water will do the trick!
What if we want to keep the color on our white t-shirts?The color can be made permanent by soaking the shirt in vinegar, allowing it to air dry, and then ironing it before putting it through the regular wash.
What do I wear to the Color Fun Run?Please wear a white t-shirt and sunglasses or goggles.
Is their a minimum amount a student needs to fundraise in order to participate? Our goal is for each student to raise $100. We are hoping this will be a realistic goal considering the ease and convenience of the on-line tools. However, we realize that this may not be realistic for some families. A minimum fundraising amount of $10 is suggested in order to cover the cost associated with the colored powder and other Fun Run expenses. Please keep this in mind when registering your student.
